From Trauma to Triumph

A Reflection for the Season of Creation 2020

Using the familiar See-Judge-Act methodology, this piece examines social realities to explore the multiple interconnecting traumas currently afflicting Earth and all of creation, including humankind, and urgently seek solutions.

This year our world has been shaken by interlocking crises: deepening climate change and ecological degradation, violence and conflict, discrimination and disparity, continuing exploitation of resources and people, mass displacement of peoples, and of course, the Covid-19 pandemic. All of this has brought us to a crossroads. Clearly, there is a cogent need to heal our relationships with creation and with each other. For this healing to occur, Pope Francis urges us in his Message for the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation to embrace and enact the Biblical vision of Jubilee, traditionally a time of profound restoration
of harmony and right relationships. We invite you to join us in reflection on his call and to share your insights and actions with us and with others in your communities and ministry settings.
